Are You Hurricane Ready?

June 9, 2020

Did you know that Hurricane Season begins June 1? Hurricanes are massive storm systems that form over warm ocean waters and move toward land. Potential threats from hurricanes include powerful winds, heavy rainfall, storm surges, coastal and inland flooding, rip currents, tornadoes, and landslides. All of that aside, the most dangerous threat is from water- inland flooding, heavy rains, and storm surge.

It's still very important to make sure your plans are up to date. Build an emergency preparedness kit. Know your evacuation routes. Have a communication plan so that your family and friends are able to contact you in case of an emergency, and include someone from out of the area that isn't impacted from the same event.

Do you Know what Your Zone is? This is a new, color-coded map you can use to determine which storm evacuation zone you live in based upon your street address. Click on the link below, put your address and in and it will show you. This will help you avoid unnecessary travel & help ease overcrowding at shelters. We will use this to notify you in the affected zones of what to do and how to say safe!

Have you signed up for emergency notifications from us? Click on the Code Red link and sign up! That way you will never miss a phone call or text notification. Also, you can download our app, Ready Cecil. This app allows you to create your personal family emergency plan, find the nearest emergency services locations and special services within the County. In the event of a major disaster or emergency, you will have INSTANT access to evacuation routes, which ones are safe and open.

Remember, build a kit and make a plan. Be #PreparedNotScared. Be #HurricaneStrong
