If you didn't already know, it's going to be a scorcher here in Cecil!

There is a heat advisory in effect for Cecil from 11:00 until 8:00 tonight. Temps are going to be in the low to mid 90's with high humidity. That combination is going to make the real-feel temperatures between 97-102!!

Follow these tips to stay safe!

-Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated drinks.
- NEVER leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles
-Wear light colored, loose clothing
- Limit outdoor activities until the evening. If you have to go out, wear a wide-brimmed hat, use sunscreen and take frequent breaks
- Visit the library, malls, shopping centers, and the movie theaters to get relief

Familiarize yourself with hazards from the heat:

Heat Cramps - Muscular pains and spasms due to heavy exertion. Although heat cramps are the least severe, they are often the first signal that the body is having trouble with the heat.

Heat Exhaustion - Typically occurs when people exercise heavily or work in a hot, humid place where body fluids are lost through heavy sweating. Blood flow to the skin increases, causing blood flow to decrease to the vital organs. This results in a form of mild shock. If not treated, the victim's condition will worsen. Body temperature will keep rising and the victim may suffer heat stroke.

Heat Stroke - A life-threatening condition. The victim's temperature control system, which produces sweating to cool the body, stops working. The body temperature can rise so high that brain damage and death may result if the body is not cooled quickly.

Enjoy the summer and be safe!
